Here I am, back in L.A., reminiscing over my adventurous one month trip with two of my close buddies in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Seoul & Hong Kong. Where do I begin... The food? The activities? The culture? Actually none of those. It's my thinking. My thought process. Something that really resonated with me nearly a year back was listening to Kevin Kelly (founder of Wired Magazine) on the Tim Ferriss podcast discuss traveling and what it means to him.
"I travel a lot... not just to China, but a lot of places - as much as I can - because it keeps my mind flexible. It's the most amount of exercise I can do more than anything else...."
We're honored to be featured as MAXIM's #1 recommended wireless speaker! Check out the article below:
1. Magnum Opus ($1,800)
This portable 30-pound unit is unique in several ways. Most notably, its eight speakers are housed in a vintage suitcase. Those gold bass cones sure stand out. And while it's the only one of the group that pumps out less than 1,000 watts, they assure us that at full volume you can't carry on a conversation five feet away—which is exactly what you want in a party situation, right?
Last year one of my childhood best friends, Pmo, got married - what an amazing day. Standing next to me (second to the far right) was Adam Lisner. The three of us were inseparable growing up in high school. Adam was supposed to get married at this same spot on October 15... Just 3 weeks away from now. Unfortunately, we lost Adam to a freak car accident just about 4 months ago. His loss has affected so many people, and not a day goes by where I'm not reminded by his infectious personality, hilarious noises, constant upbeat and friendly attitude. Everyday isn't promised, thus I'm living my life differently now by being in the present, hanging out with my close friends as much as possible, and making sure that my friends and family know how much I appreciate them. RIP Adam - we love you.
If you've ever wondered why Thumpers carry so many exotic Hawaiian names, it's because it's my hometown. I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in Kailua (on the island of Oahu). But even though Oahu's my home, it's not my favorite island - my favorite goes to Kauai - otherwise known as "The Garden Island." And thankfully, my mothers side of the family is all on Kauai, and my Grandparents still have an extra bedroom. ;)
When I want to travel, the first place that comes to mind is Kauai. Right after the 4th of July, I drove from San Diego to Los Angeles and boarded the first flight I could to Kauai for 2 days of complete bliss.
Hiking pro tip: if you're near Poipu, drive all the way down past the golf course, the Hyatt, and Shipwrecks beach... you'll find the Māhāʻulepū trail. This goes for 6+ miles on the coast and up the mountain where you won't find a human in site, and get the perfect escape you want. Here's some photos of the hike including some earth-porn below.
I'm not going to start with the obligatory "it's Friday" nonsense. But hey, we've got a good holiday upon us. My immediate family has always been a huge fan of July 4th gatherings and glorious BBQ's. My sister and brother-in-law have already planned the meals last week - lucky me - I just have to drive out to San Diego from Santa Monica and enjoy the glory.
In the meanwhile, here's what a few jams and mixes to power your Thumpers below:
What are my top 3 websites I visit everyday (externally from FB, ESPN, ...)?
And oh baby, we made the list with a bang! Curious Provisions is the #1 listed submission in Music on Product Hunt. It's never too late for an upvote - please check it out here --> https://www.producthunt.com/tech/curious-provisions
Here's an excerpt of the submission below:
Curious Provisions was founded on the simple observation that speakers have been getting ever-smaller, ever more geometric and minimalist, ever more unobtrusive. In other words: boring.
We asked ourselves a few important questions:
Where’s the personality or swagger in a sphere? A pill? A cube? Moreover, is a tiny plastic mold really the best way to experience music, arguably the defining artistic expressions of our species?
Is it possible that in the headlong race to geometric minimalism in speakers, something important has been lost?
We think so.
At Curious Provisions, we believe the future is the past, and we build it every day in our Santa Monica workshop with high quality, high fidelity, hand-crafted Thumpers from authentic vintage suitcases. Never garish, Thumpers are attention-grabbers with class; the perfect complement to a day at the beach, the understated centerpiece for your living room.
But looks will only get you so far in this world, which is why we go to great lengths to ensure every Thumper that leaves our workshop sounds at least as great as it looks. Custom-tuned to our exacting standards, with crisp highs, vibrant mids, and booming, thumping lows, Thumpers have to be heard in person to be believed.
What a glorious week. First off, I want to send a huge thanks to Francesca, Grace, Casey, Polo, Josh and Jeff for buying your new Thumpers! I can't express how much it means to receive updates of how your Thumpers look at your place and how you're using them.
And with Summer now in full season, here's some jams and updates to share...View full article →
